ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਬੈਨਰਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਫੇਸਬੁਕ ਤੇ ਇਕ ਕਰੋੜ 18 ਲੱਖ 93 ਹਜਾਰ 869 ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਲਾਈਕ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਏਪੀਜੇ ਅਬਦੁਲ ਕਲਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰਪਤੀ ਬਨਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਸੰਦ ਬਾਰੇ ਰਾਜਨੀਤਿਕ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਮਮਤਾ ਨੇ ਤਕਰੀਬਨ ਇਕ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਫੇਸਬੁਕ ਅਕਾਉਂਟ ਖੋਲਿਆ ਸੀ । ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਭਰਵਾਂ ਹੁੰਗਾਰਾ ਇਸ ਸੋਸਲ ਨੇਟਵਰਕਿੰਗ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਰੋਜਾਨਾਂ ਪਤਰਕਾਰ ਸੰਮੇਲਨ ਕਰਨੇ ਬੰਦ ਕਰ ਦਿਤੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਆਦਾਤਰ ਬਿਆਨ ਫੇਸਬੁਕ ਤੇ ਹੀ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਰਾਜਨੀਤਿਕ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਨਕਾਰੀ ਰਖਣ ਵਾਲੇ, ਮੀਡੀਆ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਸਮੇਤ ਆਮ ਲੋਕ ਵੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਬੈਨਰਜੀ ਆਫੀਸੀਅਲ ਸਾਈਟ ਤੇ ਨਜਰ ਰਖਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਲਾਈਕ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਲਾਈਕ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਅੰਕਾ ਸੁਕਰਵਾਰ ਰਾਤ 8 ਵਜੇ ਤਕ ਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਵਾਧਾ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਦੇਸ਼ ਚ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਲੋਕਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਰਾਜਨੀਤਿਕ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਦੀ ਲਿਸਟ ਚ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੁਜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਛੇ ਛੱਡ ਜਾਣਗੇ।

ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਹਾਰਿਆ ਰੁਸਤਮੇ ਹਿੰਦ

ਰੁਸਤਮ-ਏ-ਹਿੰਦ ਤੇ ‘ਹਨੂੰਮਾਨ’ ਦਾਰਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਾ ਅੱਜ ਸਵੇਰੇ ਦੇਹਾਂਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਉਹ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੁਝ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਮਾਰ ਚਲੇ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਤੇ ਮੁੰਬਈ ਦੇ ਕੋਕਿਲਾਬੇਨ ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ’ਚ ਦਾਖਲ ਸਨ। ਬਾਲੀਵੁੱਡ ਦੀਆਂ ਉੱਘੀਆਂ ਹਸਤੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਸਮਾਜ ਦੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਵਰਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੁੰਬਈ ਸਥਿਤ ਘਰ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਦੇ ਆਖਰੀ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕੀਤੇ ਤੇ ਵੱਡੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਲੋਕ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਅੰਤਿਮ ਯਾਤਰਾ ’ਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਏ। ਅੱਜ ਬਾਅਦ ਦੁਪਹਿਰ ਵਿਲੇ ਪਾਰਲੇ ’ਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤਿਮ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ।
ਫ਼ਿਲਮ ਨਗਰੀ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਐਕਟਰ, ਫ਼ਿਲਮਸਾਜ਼ ਤੇ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ’ਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ੰਸਕ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਅੰਤਿਮ ਯਾਤਰਾ ’ਚ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਸਨ। ਦਿਨੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਕੁ ਵਜੇ ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਲੱਦੇ ਇਕ ਟਰੱਕ ’ਚ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਦੇਹ ਇਕ ਵੱਡੇ ਕਾਫਲੇ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ’ਚ ‘ਦਾਰਾ ਵਿਲਾ’ ਤੋਂ ਪਵਨ ਹੰਸ ਸ਼ਮਸ਼ਾਨਘਾਟ ਤਕ ਲਿਜਾਈ ਗਈ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਅੰਤਿਮ ਰਸਮਾਂ ਨੇਪਰੇ ਚਾੜ੍ਹੀਆਂ। ਸਖ਼ਤ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਵੱਡੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ੰਸਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਫੁੱਲਪੱਤੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਂਜਲੀ ਭੇਟ ਕੀਤੀ। ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਇਕੱਠ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਲਈ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਸੀ।
ਕੋਕਿਲਾਬੇਨ ਧੀਰੂਭਾਈ ਅੰਬਾਨੀ ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ਦੇ ਸੀ.ਓ.ਓ. ਰਾਮ ਨਰਾਇਣ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ, ‘‘ਦਾਰਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਾ ਅੱਜ ਸਵੇਰੇ 7.30 ਵਜੇ ਦੇਹਾਂਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ’ਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਲਾਜ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਬੁੱਧਵਾਰ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਘਰ ਵਾਪਸ ਲਿਜਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਇੱਛਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਆਖਰੀ ਸਮੇਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ’ਚ ਹੀ ਹੋਣੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ। ਦਾਰਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ 7 ਜੁਲਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਲ ਦਾ ਦੌਰਾ ਪੈਣ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ਦਾਖਲ ਕਰਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਦਿਲ ਦੇ ਦੌਰੇ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਖੂਨ ਦੀ ਸਪਲਾਈ ਘਟਣ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਮਾਗ ਦਾ ਕਾਫੀ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਨੁਕਸਾਨਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿਗੜਦੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਕੱਲ੍ਹ ਡਾਕਟਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਹਿ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਹਾਲਤ ’ਚ ਸੁਧਾਰ ਹੋਣਾ ਅਸੰਭਵ         ਜਾਪ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਅੰਤਿਮ ਯਾਤਰਾ ਮੌਕੇ ਐਕਟਰ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਕਪੂਰ, ਫਰਦੀਨ ਖ਼ਾਨ, ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ਕ ਸਾਜਿਦ ਖ਼ਾਨ, ਐਕਟਰ- ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ਕ ਪਰਮਜੀਤ ਸੇਠੀ, ਧੀਰਜ ਕੁਮਾਰ, ਜਸਪਾਲ ਭੱਟੀ, ਅਨੂਪ ਸੋਨੀ ਤੇ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਮੁਰਾਦ, ਡੌਲੀ ਬਿੰਦਰਾ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਸਨ। ਕਾਂਗਰਸੀ ਆਗੂ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਸ਼ੰਕਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਵੀ ਇਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਸਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਸੋਨੀਆ ਗਾਂਧੀ, ਮਹਾਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਵੀ ਰਾਜ ਚਵਾਨ ਤੇ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਦਾਰਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਂਜਲੀ ਭੇਟ ਕਰਨ ਪੁੱਜੇ ਹਨ। ਲੜੀਵਾਰ ਮਹਾਂਭਾਰਤ ’ਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਟੀ.ਵੀ. ਐਕਟਰ ‘ਫਿਰੋਜ਼ ਖ਼ਾਨ’ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਦਾਰਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਵਰਗੇ ਸਨ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੀ ਮੋਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਬਕੌਲ ਖ਼ਾਨ ‘ਸਾਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਮ ਦਾਰਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੀ।’
ਅਭਿਸ਼ੇਕ ਬੱਚਨ, ਤੱਬੂ, ਬੌਬੀ ਦਿਓਲ, ਮਨੋਜ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਫਿਲਮੀ ਕਲਾਕਾਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੁਹੂ ਸਥਿਤ ਘਰ ਅਫਸੋਸ ਕਰਨ ਪੁੱਜੇ।  83 ਸਾਲਾ ਪਹਿਲਵਾਨ ਤੇ ਐਕਟਰ ਦਾਰਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਬਚਪਨ ਦਾ ਨਾਇਕ ਸੀ। ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਲਈ ਦਾਰਾ ਸਿੰਘ ‘ਹਨੂੰਮਾਨ’ ਦਾ ਦੁਨਿਆਵੀ ਚਿਹਰਾ ਸੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੀਤੀ ਰਾਤ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਜੀਅ ਘਰ ਲੈ ਆਏ ਸਨ। ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦੇ ਦੇਹਾਂਤ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਐਕਟਰ ਵਿੰਦੂ ਨੇ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘‘ਫਰਿਸ਼ਤਾ ਹੁਣ ਅਸਮਾਨ ’ਚ ਤਾਰੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਚਮਕਣ ਲਈ ਇਸ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਜਾ ਚੁੱਕਿਆ ਹੈ।’’ ਦਾਰਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ’ਚ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਤੇ ਛੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਤੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਧੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ’ਚੋਂ ਇਕ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰਦੁੱਮਣ ਸਿੰਘ ਰੰਧਾਵਾ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਵਿਆਹ ’ਚੋਂ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਵਿੰਦੂ ਦਾਰਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਐਕਟਰ ਹੈ। 

WBHRC asks for inquiry into 'inhuman torture' on Pinki

     The West Bengal Human Rights
Commission has directed the home, health and police
departments to inquire into the alleged 'inhuman torture' on
Asiad gold medalist Pinki Pramanik in police and jail custody
and submit a report within two weeks.
     "One complaint has been submitted alleging inhuman
torture both in jail and police custody to Pinki Pramanik,"
WBHRC chairman Justice Ashok Kumar Ganguly, members
Justice N C Sil and S N Roy said in a letter yesterday to the
three departments.
     "The Commission is seriously concerned and directs the
principal secretary (health) for an inquiry into the matter
and send the report within two weeks," said.
     The WBHRC also gave the same direction to principal
secretary (home) who is incharge of the jail department and
the director general of police.
     "Prima facie, it's a case of human rights violation. We
are awaiting the reports," Justice Ganguly .
     The treatment meted out to the athlete has attracted
criticism from the sporting fraternity as well.
     "It's a shame. I feel sad for Pinki who has earned
laurels for the country. It's a case of sexual harrassment. I
urge the human rights authorities to step in," two-time
Olympian Saraswati Saha-Dey, who won 200m gold at the Busan
Asian Games.
     "Male police officers have been escorting her and at
times dragging her out from police vans. This is absolutely
deplorable," former national women's swimming champion Bula
Chowdhury said.
     "She may be charged for a particular crime, but why is
she being subjected to this harassment?" Arjuna Awardee Shanti
Mullick asked.
     The retired middle distance runner was arrested on June
14 and has been accused of allegedly raping a live-in partner,
a 30-year-old estranged woman.
     She is currently in judicial custody till July 12.
     Pinki, after her arrest, was initially taken to a private
nursing home in Barasat under police custody and later to the
Barasat General Hospital for gender tests.
     Pinki was subsequently sent to the SSKM Hospital where
the gender of the athlete could not be determined as the
facility for the chromosome pattern test was unavailable.
     The athlete's blood sample was taken yesterday at the
SSKM Hospital and sent for tests.
     An MMS clip was also reportedly in circulation showing
the athelete in the nude.
     The Eastern Railway middle-distance runner had won a
4x400m relay gold in the 2006 Doha Asiad and a silver in the
same event at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
     Pinki bagged three gold medals in the 2006 SAF Games in
Colombo when she won the 400m, 800m and 4x400m relay events.

Mehdi Hassan: A golden voice that transcended boundaries

'Ab ke hum bichhade to shaayad
kabhii khwabon mein milen' (If we part now, we may meet in
dreams). The world of ghazal will no longer be same without
legendary singer Mehdi Hassan who leaves behind an unmatched
legacy and treasure of soulful melodies.
     Adored by millions on both sides of the border for his
golden voice, the 84-year-old ghazal maestro, who died in a
Karachi hospital today following multi-organ failure, was one
of the last icons representing the shared cultural heritage of
India and Pakistan.
His demise has brought the curtains down on an era of
lyricism and poetry.
     An inspiration to generations of singers in both the
countries, Hassan's mesmerising voice and range made him
'Shahenshah-e-Ghazal' (The King of Ghazal singing).
'Aaye kuchh abr kuchh sharaab aaye'; 'Patta Patta, Boota
Boota'; 'Dil-E-Nadan Tujhe Hua Kya Hai' and 'Dil Ki Baat Labon
Par Laakar' are among the his all-time hits.
Hassan was born into a family of traditional musicians at
Luna village in India's Rajasthan state on July 18, 1927.
Belonging to the 16th generation of musicians from the
Kalawant clan, Hassan received his musical grooming from his
father Ustad Azeem Khan and uncle Ustad Ismail Khan who were
both traditional 'dhrupad' singers.
He started performing at a young age and his first
concert was on 'dhrupad' and 'kheyal' with his elder brother.
Hassan's family migrated to Pakistan at the time of
Partition in 1947 when he was just 20.
     The family was living in poverty but despite the
hardships, Hassan's passion for music did not wither and he
kept up the routine of 'riyaz' (practice) on a daily basis.
In an attempt to make both ends meet, Hassan started
working in a bicycle shop. The singer got his first break on
Radio Pakistan in 1957. 
Hassan, who married twice, is survived by 14 children --
nine sons and five daughters. His wives predeceased him.
     The maestro, who began his career primarily as a 'thumri'
singer, earned recognition within the musical fraternity at
the time when Ustad Barkat Ali Khan, Begum Akhtar and Mukhtar
Begum were considered the stalwarts of ghazal rendition.
It was his passion for Urdu poetry that made him take up
ghazal singing on a part-time basis but he soon became its
greatest star.
There was a time in Pakistan's film industry when a film
was considered incomplete without Hassan's voice. He ruled the
Pakistani film world along with Ahmed Rushdi in the 1960s-70s.
He was the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions:
the 'Tamgha-i-Imtiaz' granted to him by Gen Ayub Khan; the
'Pride of Performance' bestowed on him by Gen Ziaul Haq; and
the 'Hilal-i-Imtiaz' conferred by Gen Pervez Musharraf.
Besides the Nigar Film and Graduate Awards from Pakistan,
he was presented the Saigal Award in Jalandhar, India, in
1979, while the Gorkha Dakshina Bahu Award was given to him
in Nepal in 1983.
Hassan stopped singing in the late 80s due to ill health.
Despite his ailments, Hassan had a great desire to sing
with Lata Mangeshkar. In 2010, "Sarhadein", an album which had
the first and last duet song "Tera Milana" by Mehdi Hassan and
Lata Mangeshkar, was released.
Hassan recorded his part in Pakistan in 2009 and Lata
later heard the track and recorded her part in India in 2010.
The tracks were later mixed together for a duet.
     Lata, who once called Hassan the 'voice of God', said "A
singer like him is born once in a millennium. It is my bad
luck that I could not sing with him when he was healthy. Now I
can only regret. With his demise the music fraternity has lost
a great and legendary singer."
Hassan, who last performed in India in 2000, wanted to
visit his birth country again, a wish that remained
unfulfilled.

ट्राम

कोलकाता में पहली बार 24 फरवरी 1873 को सियालदह स्टेशन से आर्मेनियन स्ट्रीट तक ट्राम चलाई गई थी. तब इसे घोड़े खींचा करते थे फिर बीच में चार साल बंद रहने के बाद वर्ष 1880 में यह सेवा दोबारा शुरू की गई. इस दौरान स्टीम इंजन से ट्राम चलाने का असफल प्रयास भी किया गया और अंत में 27 मार्च 1902 को बिजली से ट्राम चलाने में कामयाबी मिली. कोलकाता में चलने वाली ट्रामों में दो डिब्बे होते हैं.


अंग्रेजों ने साल 1900 में इसमें एक और डिब्बा जोड़ दिया था तब अगला डिब्बा प्रथम श्रेणी का कर दिया गया और पिछला डिब्बा द्वितीय श्रेणी का. पिछले डिब्बे का किराया पहले डिब्बे से कम था. नगर में 1930 के दशक में 300 से ज्यादा ट्रामें चलती थीं. उस समय यही महानगर की प्रमुख सार्वजनिक सवारी थी अब सड़कों के प्रसार व वाहनों की तादाद बढ़ने के साथ इनका रूट सिकुड़ गया है लेकिन ये अब भी सड़कों पर बिछी पटरियों पर ही चलती हैं.  इस समय कोलकाता ट्रामवेज कॉरपोरेशन यानि सीटीसी के पास 272 ट्रामें हैं, लेकिन उनमें से सिर्फ 125 ट्रामें ही सड़कों पर उतरती हैं.
